Need For Inter-Urban Transit Growing

Chatham-Kent Council is continuing its focus on inter-urban transit with another appeal to the province.

Councillor Brock McGregor has proposed CK make a request to the MTO about reviewing opportunities for intercommunity public transit, and complete a mobility plan.

McGregor says Chatham-Kent also has to work with other municipalities to make an integrated network.

"These modes of transit can't work in silos, they need to be integrated," he says. "You need to be able to get from one mode of transit to the next if you're really going to get from a smaller community to the bigger centres."

McGregor acknowledges the province has started the ball rolling, with calls for moving towards a more efficient rail transit connecting the GTA with southwestern Ontario.
