Officer Assaulted During Wallaceburg Arrest

A Walpole Island man is facing a charge of assaulting a police officer.

Chatham-Kent police were called to a Wallaceburg apartment around 8:40pm yesterday. They say the 41-year-old was drinking with his girlfriend at her apartment when he caused about $5,000 damage to her property.

While being arrested authorities say the suspect pulled away from police, punched the officer in the head and resisted arrest until finally being cuffed. Police later learned he was under conditions not to consume alcohol.

He's also been charged with breach of probation, mischief under $5,000, and resisting arrest, and was being held pending a bail hearing.
