LKDSB Meeting Could Lead To Closures

The Lambton Kent District School Board is holding a special board meeting this afternoon to discuss capital spending issues and consider renting space in schools.

Director of Education Jim Costello says it is to meet a directive from the province and with 30% of the space in schools vacant the board is open to alternate ways to use them.

"Virtually any organization you could be public sector you could be private sector, if a group of doctors wanted to open a health centre, basically any organization that is willing to or looking for quality space," he says. "We have to do that by regulation prior to accommodation reviews or any talk around future consolidation ."

Costello says no decisions have been made on security or how much rent the board would charge but the businesses or non-profit agencies would be able to use the facilities while students are in the schools.

The meeting starts at 3pm at Wallaceburg District Secondary School.
