Mayors Lobby On Lakes

A group of mayors from areas including around the Great Lakes, Chatham-Kent and Essex County dropped into Queen's Park earlier this week to discuss protecting the water for the future.

Chatham-Kent mayor Randy Hope says there was a host of topics.

"Asian carp, phragmites, dealing with the whole issue of phosphates and nitrates in Great Lakes systems, making sure our beaches are clean," he says. "We're saying if you are dealing with climate change and other things you need to take affirmative action now."

Hope says a number of American officials made the trip as well, showing their willingness to work together.

He says as soon as the election is over the group begins lobbying the federal government.
