Advance Polling Starts

If you want to get a jump on voting for the federal election, advanced polls across the country open today.

They'll be open all weekend including Thanksgiving Monday.

Elections Canada spokesman James Hale says all you need is one piece of government-issue photo identification like a driver's license or health card.

"If you don't have that, then there is a long list of combinations of pieces you can use (on Elections Canada's website)," says Hale.  "The main thing to remember is, you have to prove both your name and your residence."

Your voter registration card will tell you where you can vote in both the advance poll and on Election Day.  If you haven't received it in the mail, you can check online to see if you are on the voter registration list.  If you're not, the site also contains contact numbers to get on the list.
