Charges Laid After Apartment Fire

Chatham-Kent police have charged a tenant in the apartment where a suspicious fire broke out Oct. 6.

Police and fire officials believed at the time no one was in the apartment, but there were other tenants in the building which is divided into four units.

An investigator with the Ontario Fire Marshall's office confirmed the fire is suspicious and this morning police charged the 45-year-old man with arson to property and arson endangering life.

The man is being held pending a bail hearing.

Fire officials at the time said damage was estimated at $30,000.
