New Water Wells Approved

The wells that supply water to Ridgetown and Highgate are being replaced.

The Public Utilities Commission approved the spending of up to $1.2-million to get the work done.

General manager Tim Sunderland says the PUC has eight wells on two separate properties and the new wells will go on the same properties.

"We've gone through an assessment report on all the wells and they're all in need of repair or replacement," he says. "It's more economical to drill new wells and decomission the old wells."

There is enough concern about the old wells failing that the first two new ones will be drilled this fall.

When the project is complete the four new wells will supply more water than the existing eight.
