Two Arrested After Burg Truck Theft

Chatham-Kent police made two arrests after a chase involving a pick-up truck that was reported stolen in Wallaceburg.

Constable Renee Cowell says they are also investigating to see if there is any connection to a rash of recent truck thefts in the town.

Constable Renee Cowell says it started just after 3:30am Tuesday morning when a patrolling officer noticed the truck travelling east on Dufferin Ave.

"He realized that the truck had been reported stolen earlier in the night, he attempted to initiate a traffic stop however the driver fled and failed to stop," she says. "On Baseline Rd. near Brick Rd. we deployed a tire deflation device as the driver was achieving speeds of over double the legal limit, (it) was successful in that it slowly deflated the tires."

However, the vehicle didn't stop there, it kept going on the rims until two police cars were able to stop it.

An 18-year-old man from the Munsee-Delaware First Nation faces a number of charges including failure to stop for police, theft and possession over $5,000 and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

A second person in the vehicle, a 16-year-old from the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, faces theft and possession charges.

They were both held in custody pending bail hearings.
