Driver Killed By Truck Tire On 401

A driver is dead after an incident on Hwy. 401 east of London.

Middlesex OPP says the driver of a westbound vehicle was killed when her vehicle was hit by a wheel that had come off an eastbound transport truck. It happened near Putnam Rd. around 7:30am Friday.

The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. She has been identified as Kimberley Coordes, 50, of South-West Oxford Township.

The transport truck driver, apparently unaware that a wheel had come off the truck, continued driving. He was later located by police.

The OPP closed the westbound lanes at Putnam Rd. Traffic was detoured at Putnam Rd. to Hamilton Rd. then back to the highway at Elgin Rd.

The westbound lanes re-opened just after 11:15am.  Police are still investigating.
