Newbury Man Killed In Crash

Lambton OPP have released the name of a Newbury man killed Monday when a stack truck was struck by a freight train.

Constable Travis Parsons says the driver, 78-year-old Michil Demaiter, was attempting to cross the railway on Euphemia Line when he crossed the path of a southbound freight train around 12:40pm.

Parsons says Demaiter was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Chatham-Kent Police and Canadian Pacific Police were initially dispatched to the scene along with firefighters and EMS.

Lambton OPP took over the investigation since the point of impact happened in Dawn-Euphemia Twp.

The scene at Euphemia Line and Cairo Rd. was closed for several hours to allow for the investigation.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
