United Way Gets Major Boost

Union Gas is donating $1,032,000 to United Way branches across Ontario.

Of that, $654,986 is going to stay in Chatham-Kent, where the company's head office is located.

Spokesperson Andrea Stass says the United Way fundraising campaign is a success because of the enthusiasm shown for it each year.

"Whether they're a volunteer, whether they participate in a special event, or whether they donate through payroll deductions, it touches about every employee at Union Gas," she explains. "We have about 2,200 employees."

Stass says donations to Chatham-Kent are up about $20,000 from last year, and about $12,000 overall.

This Union Gas campaign supports 25 United Way branches, assisting more than 400 communities.
