Fuel Problems In 401 Construction Zone

A rash of stalled vehicles in the 401 construction zone between Chatham and Tilbury has the OPP taking action.

Const. Janine Belanger says at least a dozen vehicles have run out of fuel since work started in July, snarling the single lane of traffic.

"By setting up some Jerry Cans with fuel at each of the service centres so the officer that's attending the scene can go and retrieve the Jerry Can, go to the scene, put enough fuel in the gas tank for the vehicle to continue on, and the traffic to start flowing again," says Const. Belanger. Belanger says a westbound vehicle snarled traffic for about an hour this morning after it ran out of fuel.

Belanger is also reminding vehicles to slow down in the construction zone with multiple collisions reported since work started back in July.

She adds that the OPP has been informed that construction has been extended into the latter part of December.
