Local Businesses Help Give Kids A Merry Christmas

Two local businesses gave Santa Claus the day off to help ensure no child in Chatham-Kent would go without a Christmas.

On Wednesday, Blackburn Radio and McKinlay Funeral Homes challenged local residents to bring in an unwrapped toy/gift to the Real Canadian Superstore in support of the Chatham Goodfellows’ “No Child Without a Christmas” campaign.

The charity event was broadcast by Blackburn Radio on Country 92.9FM/630AM CFCO, 94.3 CKSY and 95.1 Cool FM between 6am and 6pm.

Amanda Thibodeau, director of marketing for Blackburn Radio, says she was overwhelmed by the community's support of the Christmas campaign.

"It's a need that Chatham-Kent always responds to. Anytime that there's organizations that need help, I find that Chatham-Kent comes together, groups together, and is able to accomplish something that I think bigger communities aren't able to do," she says.

The event was able to raise around $8,000 in toy donations, along with over $900 in monetary and gift card donations.
