Police Cruiser Dinged Up In Leamington Arrest

A 53-year-old man is facing a number of charges after OPP in Leamington made a dramatic arrest Wednesday night.

Police say around 8:15pm yesterday, a 2008 Jeep Cherokee was reported stolen in town. Shortly after the call came in, officers on patrol saw a Jeep matching the description in Leamington's uptown area and tried to stop the vehicle. However, police report the vehicle hit the marked cruiser as it tried to get away. Police say the Jeep hit a truck as well before turning the wrong way down Victoria Ave. which is a one-way street.

Officers report the vehicle stopping on the one-way street before the driver got out and ran. He was arrested after a short chase.

The police cruiser, the truck and the Jeep received significant damage but no one was hurt.

The 53-year-old man from Leamington is charged with failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, resisting arrest and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
