UofW Sports Complex Referendum Fails

The referendum for a new sports complex at the University of Windsor has failed despite two of the three student groups voting in favour.

An agreement was reached before the vote that stipulated all three groups must have a majority yes vote to move forward.

The University of Windsor Students' Alliance voted 52% in favour while the Organization of Part Time University Students had a 50.7% yes vote.

The vote failed because 54% of the Graduate Student Society who took part said no.

The results are unofficial until they are presented at an upcoming UWSA board meeting, but university officials say that's just a formality.

A proposed $73-million dollar sports complex would have been funded by using $125 per year from each student for 30 years.
