Update: Gregory Line House Fire

Chatham-Kent officials now say damage in a house fire on Gregory Line this morning was $250,000.

Fire crews from three stations were called to Gregory Line east of the Caledonia Rd. just after 9am.

Assistant Fire Chief Ric Scharf says in a news release there was extensive damage.

Station Seven chief Robert Arnold says it broke out in an addition at the rear of the house.

"We've got a two storey brick house with a one storey addition out the back where the kitchen was, it started in the kitchen area around the cooking stove," he says. "With all the renovations and add-ons you don't know what you've got for walls and false walls in the structures."

Arnold says the residents did the right thing and left the building when the fire broke out and no one was hurt.

Scharf says the stove had been left unattended.
