73's Visit The Shark Tank

The Wheatley Sharks host the league leading Essex 73's tonight.

Sharks head coach Dave Wiper says his team's speed will be key to getting a good result.

"That's one big asset that we have as a hockey team — we're small, but we're fast," says Wiper. "We got to use them wheels and hopefully keep the puck down in their end as much as possible tonight."

Wiper expects his team to bounce back after a confidence crushing 11-3 loss to the Blenheim Blades on Friday. He thinks home ice will help.

"We've been getting very good fan support and the guys really love playing at home. This hockey team is fun to watch because we don't quit," says Wiper.

The 73's on the other hand are coming off of a confidence boosting 10-3 win over the Alvinston Flyers on Friday.

In three meetings this season, the 73's have won twice while the Sharks won the most recent meeting in Wheatley 4-3 in OT.

The Essex 73's sit top of the Great Lakes Junior 'C' Hockey League standings with 50 points while the Sharks are back in 7th in the nine team league with 26 points.

Puck-drop is set for 7:30pm at Wheatley Area Arena.
