Santa Stops At Leamington's New Hospice

The Erie Shores campus of the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County is a little closer to its fundraising goal thanks to Santa.

A golf tournament organized by Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara is donating $15,000. So far, Cheryl Dieter with the hospice says a fundraising campaign is just $1.15-million short of its $6.5-million goal.

Dieter is also the chief nursing executive at Leamington District Memorial Hospital across the street from the new hospice. She says the facility will likely free up beds at the hospital.

"It's not the right place to be (for palliative care patients)," she says. "It certainly would help."

She says the bricks and mortar are complete, and now some of the finer details are being constructed.
