Blackmail Attempt Over Skype

LaSalle police are warning the public of a Skype blackmail scheme after a local man came forward as a victim.

Police say the man received a Facebook friend request from an unknown female who he started chatting with.

The chat soon moved to Skype and on the other end of the webcam was a naked woman asking the man to get naked as well. The man complied and soon after the connection broke.

He then received a message with a picture attached demanding he pay $3,000 or the picture would be sent to his family and friends. The man refused to pay and some friends did receive the photo.

LaSalle police say thousands of people across Canada have fallen victim to similar "romance scams."
