Wallaceburg Garage Fire Hospitalizes Two

The Office of the Fire Marshal is going to investigate a Monday afternoon fire at 4008 Dufferin Ave. after two people needed to be sent to hospital.

Firefighters responded from Chatham and Wallaceburg at about 3:21pm to a call of a structure fire. Crews arrived to find the garage near a home was fully involved in flames.

Damage is pegged at $100,000 while authorities say roughly $200,000 in property was saved.

The two people injured in the fire were treated for injuries at the scene before being sent to hospital. No update has been given by authorities as to the current condition of the two victims.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Chatham-Kent fire officials are reminding the public to be aware of how flammable vapours can accumulate — causing a hazardous situation if an ignition source is introduced.
