Amherstburg Recognizes Former Deputy Mayor

Flags are flying at half-mast at Amherstburg Town Hall in honour of former deputy mayor Robert Bailey.

Bailey passed away at the age of 68 while vacationing in Florida.

Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says the flag was lowered Monday and will remain at half-mast until Wednesday.

A lifelong Amherstburg resident, Bailey sat on town council for nine years, including a four-year term as deputy mayor. He was also a director at the Erie St.Clair Local Health Integration Network in addition to his work on the Kids Campaign for Mental Health Issues, Essex County Library Board, Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island and with Amherstburg Community Services.

Town councillor John Sutton says Bailey was a mentor during his first term on council from 2007 to 2010.

"You always came prepared because you knew Bob would be prepared," he says. "Everybody who knew Bob would classify him as a good man at heart; someone who cared deeply about family, friends and community. He's left an indelible mark on Amherstburg and will be sorely missed."

Bailey was married to retired teacher and Greater Essex County District School Board trustee Helga Bailey.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been released.
