Skating Over In Downtown Chatham

The King Street Commons outdoor skating rink at the Downtown Chatham Centre is closed for the rest of the season.

Warm weather over the weekend and mild weather in the forecast largely get the blame.

"It takes about four to five days to gradually build the ice layers, but only takes one heavy rain or a few warm days to destroy any progress that our staff makes," says Jaclyn Gillier, marketing director at the mall. "The mild winter has made it extremely hard to keep the ice going."

Ice skating at the outdoor rink was limited to two weeks in January.

"It is always nice to see families unplug and enjoy the simple pleasure of skating," says Gillier.

Planning for events this summer at King Street Commons is already underway including live music for Concerts on the Commons, Retrofest and more not-for-profit events.
