Windsor's Jobless Rate Down In January

Statistics Canada reports an improvement in Windsor's jobless rate last month.

It was 9.3% in January, still the highest in Canada but it's down from 9.7% in December.

In London, the unemployment rate also fell, to 5.8% from 6.1% the month before.

Ontario's rate didn't change from December. It remained 6.7%, and the national rate ticked upwards just slightly to 7.2%. A net gain in jobs in Ontario was offset by losses in Alberta, Manitoba and Newfoundland and Labrador.

It says the number of jobs recorded across Canada is down 5,700 but is well within the survey's margin of error, so it's not statistically significant.
