Inflation Hits Food Banks

Rising costs of food may be irritating to many people but it is causing real problems for area food banks.

Captain Stephanie Watkinson of the Salvation Army in Chatham rising costs have make it harder for their clients.

"We are finding more people are coming in each day looking for basic items to fill their pantries at home, we have a lot of people coming in daily for bread and any fresh produce we can have out their," she says. "We have a budget that we allocate for purchasing of food and if we spend more we have to raise more elsewhere."

Watkinson says the food bank has been operating on items donated before Christmas but that supply is running low and typically at this time of year the Salvation Army begins buying food.
