Surveying Health Care In The Region

The Erie St Clair Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) is gathering public input on a few proposed changes to health care in the region.

The change would see LHINs assume responsibility for home and community care, and become more involved with primary care.

They also want to create stronger links between the population and public health.

CEO Gary Switzer says patients are looking for a better health care experience.

"Right now when my phone rings, patients talk to me about the challenges they have moving through the system," says Switzer. "By bringing the planning and monitoring of primary care within the LHIN mandate, we'll at least be able to have accountability agreements within the system to ensure those handoffs are done smoothly."

Under the proposal, the existing Community Care Access Centre would be transferred to the LHIN and potentially undergo a name change.

Those interested can fill out an online survey at www.eriestclairlhin.on.ca until February 19.
