Dog Fighting Canines Could Be Put Down

The Ontario SPCA is making a request to euthanize 21 of the dogs seized as part of a Tilbury dog fighting ring.

Inspector Brad DeWar says it's the most dogs they've made a request to the courts to have "put down" in his six years at the agency.

"It has been made in the interest of the animals and public safety," says DeWar. "And it's also done in consultation with industry experts, not only in Ontario but also from the United States."

DeWar says the hearing will likely be held in the coming weeks at the Chatham courthouse, with a date possibly coming down next week.

Chatham-Kent police seized 31 dogs as part of the bust last year, and three people were charged.
