Free Fishing Weekend

Anglers can fish without a license this weekend in honour of Family Day.

The Ontario government is encouraging people to get outside and enjoy some fresh air while ice fishing.

"Fishing is a great outdoor activity that can be enjoyed with family and friends. I encourage you to get out and try some fishing this Family Day weekend. Safety is always important so before you head out check ice conditions with local ice hut operators or other anglers," says Bill Mauro, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry.

The rules and license limits put in place by the 2016 Fishing Regulations still need to be followed.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry holds free fishing events twice a year, the second is the first week of July.
