UPDATE: Crashes Close 401 In Chatham-Kent

Parts of Hwy. 401 in Chatham-Kent are slowly re-opening.

A crash in the eastbound lanes at Queens Line near Tilbury has been cleared and the section of highway re-opened. Firefighters and OPP attended the scene as the eastbound lanes were reported closed around 9:44pm on Tuesday.

Just as the highway's westbound lanes at Bloomfield Rd. near Chatham re-opened after a jackknifed semi-truck was cleared, the eastbound lanes at Bloomfield Rd. are closed — again because of a jackknifed semi-truck.

Traffic is moving slowly through the westbound lanes and eastbound traffic can expect to be stalled.

The portion of the highway westbound near Bloomfield Rd. was closed around 8:25pm, while the eastbound lanes were closed shortly after 10pm on Tuesday.

Emergency responders are dealing with a number of crashes this evening as area roadways are slick and partially snow covered after a blast of freezing rain and snow in the region.

Police and fire services in both Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent are advising drivers so slow down in the unfavourable driving conditions, with some services using the hashtag #SeeSnowGoSlow to encourage drivers to take extra caution on area roadways.
