OPP Cruiser Stops Runaway Trailer

Quick action by a Chatham-Kent OPP officer may have saved a big wreck on the 401 and possibly some lives.

Just after 12pm Saturday, an eastbound officer near Communication Rd. witnessed a flatbed trailer become detached from a westbound pickup truck.

The trailer went into the median and before it could enter the eastbound lanes the officer positioned the cruiser in its path. The front of the police cruiser took the impact causing moderate damage, and there were no injuries.

The Ministry of Transportation attended the scene and have assumed the investigation, with charges pending.
