Dangerous Operation Charge Put Over

A London man's charges resulting from a fatal crash on Hwy. 401 could be finalized next week after he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in a Chatham court.

59-year-old Leszek Urbaniak, was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

The charge was laid after a car crash in Chatham-Kent in May of 2014 killed two Windsor residents; 35-year-old Marc Lafontaine and his 13-year-old niece Alyssa Smulders.

Speaking through an interpreter Urbaniak pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of careless driving.

The case has been put over to March 18 when the judge will hear a statement of facts agreed to by the crown and the defence.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
