Gas Line Cut For Bike, Residences Evacuated

An attempted bike theft on St.Anthony St. in Chatham led to a rude awakening for residents living in the area.

Police say a man tried steal a bike that was locked to a gas meter but fled the scene when he realized he cut through the gas line.

Emergency personnel had to evacuate the area around 3:15am today until Union Gas crews could fix the gas meter.

Damage is estimated at $600.

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 20-years-old.

He fled without the bike.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
