UPDATE: Standoff Ends In Arrest On Walpole Island

Lambton OPP have made an arrest following a ten-hour long police standoff on Walpole Island.

Walpole Island Police Service and OPP officers responded to a break and enter and assault with a weapon incident at a residence in the 100-block of Firehall Rd. shortly after 1am Sunday morning.

Two males fled the area on foot and one suspect was arrested, while the other barricaded himself in a residence.

The surrounding area on Firehall Rd., Library Rd. and Dewagan Lane was cordoned off by police.

The suspect was arrested without incident around 11am. The roads have also since been reopened.

The OPP’s Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT) and canine unit are assisting Walpole police in the ongoing investigation.

No names have been released at this time and police say charges are pending.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
