Husband Charged After Wife's Body Found

A 78-year-old Blenheim man is charged with first degree murder after his wife's body was discovered in their burned house.

On Thursday March 24, Chatham-Kent emergency crews found the body of 73-year-old Margaret Ardis following a fire at her home on Nichols Dr. Her husband was taken to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for treatment following the blaze.

Police say an autopsy has revealed the woman didn't die in the fire. Though police aren't releasing the exact cause of death, they say it is criminal in nature.

Chatham-Kent police have arrested 78-year-old Walter Ardis and charged him with first degree murder. Ardis is being held in custody for a bail hearing.
