Detroit River Fisherman Gets Ban

A Markham man has been fined and issued a fishing ban after repeatedly angling without a licence.

A Southern Marine Enforcement Conservation Officer caught Wu Wang fishing at the Detroit River in Windsor without a licence back on May 23, 2015.

Through investigation, officials learned that when Wang had been caught, he was also under a fishing ban related to previous convictions in 2014.

Wang has been convicted and issued a $1,000 fine. He's also banned from having fishing equipment within 50m of any body of water for the next five years.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
