Natural Gas Report Troubling Agriculture

Reports that the Ontario government wants to phase out natural gas use won't change Ontario agriculture's quest to have the distribution system expanded.

Kent Federation of Agriculture President Ron Faubert says the fuel is cheaper and cleaner than alternatives like oil.

Faubert says for some applications there are no alternatives yet.

"I'm struggling with understanding it because in recent years the Ontario government has built 17 gas fired generating stations," he says. "They obviously realize that using natural gas is much more cost effective."

He says with electricity costs going up rapidly farmers are concerned about possible new regulations.
