Merlin Area Home Catches Fire From Charging Battery

A Merlin area home has extensive damage after a fire just before 8 p.m., Sunday night.

Fire officials say a battery caught fire while it was charging, and quickly spread to the rest of the property.

There were no injuries, but $150,000 worth of damage was sustained.

Firefighters say, despite windy conditions, they were able to save a nearby garage and shed from catching fire.

The cause is accidental, and crews remain on scene.
