Research Centre Carrying Momentum Into Summer

Officials at the University of Guelph`s Ridgetown Campus hope the summer won`t dry up prospects for their new research centre.

Following a $1.5M donation from Chatham-Kent for their Sustainable Crop Innovation Centre, administration continues to push for contributions locally and nationally.

Campus Director Ken McEwan says the centre will foster growth in Chatham-Kent, and keep current residents here for the long-term.

"It's about job stability and job creation. I think by having a relevant, viable and productive facility, these jobs will remain here," says McEwan.

So far the campus has raised $3M for the $15M project. Most recently, the campus' 5K Sod Buster raised $30,000.

Officials are preparing for another big funding announcement next month.
