Region To Get New Car Charging Stations

The Ontario Government is committing to build nearly 500 electric car charging stations across the province -- and four of them will be in Chatham, Leamington and Wallaceburg.

The new stations are expected to be in service by the end of next March.

It's part of a $20-million initiative announced by the province, to get more people driving electric vehicles.

Level 3 charging stations will be located at the Richmond St. McDonald's and Third St. Tim Horton's in Chatham -- the Talbot St. McDonald's in Leamington -- and the Dufferin Ave. Tim Horton's in Wallaceburg.

They can charge a vehicle to 80% in about 30 minutes.

The province says the network of stations, from Windsor to Ottawa, will help ease fears about how far electric cars can travel.
