Pit Bulls' Fates Hang In The Balance

Several groups that are looking to save 21 pitbulls from being put down will plead their case before a judge today.

The dogs were seized during a dog-fighting investigation near Tilbury in October 2015.

The OSPCA is taking care of the dogs right now, but officials with the OSPCA have also applied to have the dogs put down. They made that application after consulting with several animal welfare industry experts who believe the dogs pose a danger to the public.

However, three groups, including Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary feel otherwise.

They want a judge to grant them permission to house the dogs at a facility north of Toronto.

Both sides will get to speak with a judge during a pre-trial teleconference call today. That pre-trial hearing will not be open to the public.

A group of peaceful protesters are also expected to gather outside of the provincial offences court on Communication Rd. just outside of Chatham while the hearing takes place.
