Long Weekend Thunderstorms Impact Region

It was a wacky and wild long holiday weekend weather wise.

Numerous thunderstorms whallopped parts of southwestern Ontario Sunday.

In Tillsonburg, a 52-year-old man was struck and killed by lightning while cutting his lawn Sunday afternoon.

Arva, north of London, received over just 109mm (4 inches) of rain, north London received over 80mm while downtown London was soaked by over 66mm or two inches of rain.

Watford received 45mm or just under two inches of rain.

A number of trees were uprooted near Langton.

Funnel clouds were reported in Lambton, Essex and Elgin counties and a waterspout was seen over Lake Erie near Leamington.

The rain was highly isolated in spots. Sunday afternoon it was raining heavily, for example, in Reeces Corners but stopped abruptly just metres west of the stop lights there.
