National Jobless Rate Rises, Windsor's Dips

While Canada's unemployment rate rose in July, Windsor's continued it's downward trend.

Statistics Canada says the city's jobless rate was 6.2% last month, down from 6.4% the month before.

In London, the rate also fell, 7.2% from 7.3% in June.

Calgary had the highest unemployment at 8.6%, while Victoria had the lowest nationally at 4.7%.

Analysts didn't predict how many jobs the national economy would lose in July. The Canadian labour market lost 31,200 net jobs, the biggest monthly drop in almost five years. Canada's unemployment rate rose to 6.9%, up from 6.8% in June.

Ontario's unemployment rate didn't change in July. It remained at 6.4%.

The biggest provincial change was in Alberta where the rate rose from 7.9% in June to 8.6% last month.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
