Officer Smashes Window To Arrest Suspect

A 46-year-old man is facing a list of charges after Chatham-Kent police recovered a Jeep that was reported stolen in Windsor earlier this week.

Police say an officer pulled the vehicle over on Prince Albert Rd. yesterday afternoon -- a few hours after the driver was spotted pumping $40 worth of fuel into the vehicle at a gas bar in Chatham and allegedly driving off without paying for it.

Investigators allege when the vehicle was stopped, the driver refused to exit the Jeep or show the officer his hands, so the officer on scene broke one of the vehicle's windows and then removed the driver.

The man was arrested and taken to the hospital where he was treated for minor injuries before he was released back into police custody.

He's charged with theft, possession of stolen property, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight while being pursued by a police officer, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and breach of probation.
