High Temperatures Mean High Hydro Usage

Entegrus has noticed a spike in hydro usage to go along with this summer's spike in temperatures.

"Entegrus' service territory peaks around 195MW of electricity this time of year," says System Planning Engineer Matthew Meloche. "This year we peaked at 193. In 2015 we were a little lower at around 180 MW."

Meloche points to last year's cooler summer for why usage was lower. Despite the high hydro numbers, Meloche adds their system can handle the load.

"That's absolutely in line with our historical system performance," says Meloche. "Over time, the effects of conservation have started to work, and our peak loads have dropped off. That's a very comfortable number for us."

Still, Meloche adds residents should keep their blinds closed and hang your clothes outside to dry. This will help keep homes cool, so residents can avoid turning on their air conditioning.
