Impaired With Kids In Vehicle

Chatham-Kent police caught not one but two motorists drunk driving with children in their vehicles.

Around 9pm Wednesday, officials got reports of a single vehicle crash on Bay Line near Winterline Rd. in Dover. When crews arrived on scene, they found a woman and young child in the car. Neither were physically injured.

Officers believed the driver was under the influence of alcohol. After a family member came to take care of the child, police took the suspect to their headquarters for breath tests.

Now a 30-year-old Chatham woman is charged with having a blood alcohol level exceeding the legal limit. She's been given a future court date.

In a similar, but separate incident, police heard about a van moving erratically on Riverview Drive near Chatham around 11:20pm Wednesday. A patrolling officer found the van in question on King St. W.

Inside this vehicle were another woman and two more children. Like the previous situation, family members came to pick up the children and the woman was taken to police headquarters.

A 36-year-old Tilbury woman has also been charged with impaired driving, and has a future court date.
