Best Apple Crop in 10 Years

It's a good year for apples in the region.

"The crop this year is fantastic," says Thiessen Apple Orchards owner Andrew Thiessen. "It's one of our best crops we've had in over 10 years I'd say."

Thiessen says the weather was ideal from spring into summer.

"We had a great spring, we didn't have any frost issues that normally can reduce the crop size and we had good rain this summer, a little bit of heat. All of that combined adds up to be a bumper crop," says Thiessen.

Some early varieties of apples like macintosh and galas are available this week while others like Red Delicious wont be available until late September or October.

Thiessen Apple Orchards is open to the public for apple picking and other fall attractions like the 5 acre corn maze. The orchard will remain open for picking until October 29, 2016.
