Cooking Fire In Wallaceburg

The Chatham-Kent Fire Department is reminding residents to stay in the kitchen when cooking.

That's after they were called to an apartment on Margaret Ave. in Wallaceburg on Wednesday to respond to reports of smoke in the building.

Firefighters put on breathing masks and entered the apartment where they found a pot had been left on the stove. Officials says the resident had started to cook, but then fell asleep.

Crews used positive pressure fans to ventilate the building, blowing fresh in, and removing the smoke and fumes.

No one was hurt, and damage is estimated at $500.
