Lakers Take On Kings

After an offseason of changes, the Wallaceburg Lakers are ready to hit the ice.

The Lakers have a new owner and head coach in Joe Byrne, who says they designed a team they thought would be good for a rebuild.

"Our GM Ritch Kanally and myself, spent most of the summer putting this team together," he says. "Everything from new training staff, to assistant coaches. Everybody's kind of thrown in headed to the right direction of making this whole thing better."

Byrne says the Lakers are a gritty, hard-working, blue-collar team, that's going to fight for wins.

"That's the kind of team we wanted to have, we wanted to change the culture around the locker room," he says. "So we went with a hardworking group of kids, high compete, a lot of drive behind them, and we went young for the sake of reestablishing that drive and that fire."

Tonight Wallaceburg hosts the Dresden Kings in their home opener. Puck drop is set for 7:30pm.
