Kent Bridge Still Closed For Repairs

It looks like the the Kent Bridge might be closed until at least November.

The bridge was closed to traffic on September 15 after a tractor trailer spilled diesel fuel across the the roadway.

Municipal crews have completed a technical assessment on the bridge. The spill has forced officials to completely replace the asphalt where the diesel fuel contacted. So far, clean-up crews have milled the asphalt off of the structure, as well as parts of Kent Bridge Rd. and Longwoods Rd.

Crews have also found they need to replace the north expansion join of the bridge, and also waterproof the concrete deck. Municipal officials say the earliest a contractor can begin the work is September 28, adding the project could take up to four weeks to complete.

The bridge will remain closed during this time. Motorists can use the Sherman Brown Bridge on Communication Rd., or the Thamesville Bridge to get across the river.
