Horses Killed In Barn Fire Near Mount Forest

At least 12 horses died late Thursday in a barn fire at a farm near Mount Forest.

Fire Chief Dave Guilbault says it is believed one or two horses were able to escape the blaze, which started around 10pm last night.  He says the fire was still active early this morning and firefighters were preventing the flames from reaching a nearby house.

One man as taken to hospital as a precaution to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The OPP closed a section of Hwy. 89 between Wellington Rd. 6 and Lovers Lane while fire crews were at the scene.   That road re-opened around 4am this morning.

Guilbault said it was too early to speculate on the cause of the fire, adding the Ontario Fire Marshal's office had been called in to investigate.
