Balcony Fire Believed To Be Accidental

Damage is pegged at around $20,000 following a fire in a three-storey condo unit in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services says on Wednesday around 5:30pm, firefighters responded to reports of smoke emanating from the condo unit at 393 Baldoon Rd.  Fire crews discovered the blaze had originated from a rear balcony and were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

Firefighters prevented about $500,000 worth of property damage.

Fire officials say the blaze is believed to be have been accidental.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
